Kohl Johann Peter (d. 9/10/1778) – Academician of the department of oratory and church history, was born at Kiel, died 9 October 1778 Until 1725 he lived in Leipzig in 1723 published an essay: Ecclesia graeca lutheranizans, where he found a thorough acquaintance with the dogmas of the Orthodox Church.
February 7, 1725 Blumentrost through the editor Acta eruditorum, Menke, Kohl invited to the St. Petersburg Academy. Kohl arrived in the same year, took over supervision of the academic grammar school, gave lectures, made at the Academy of messages: De manuscriptis bibliothecae mosquensis, De origine linguae russicae, De lexico slavonico conficiendo.
In 1727 Kohl fell into melancholy – in the words of Schlozer of hopeless love for the Grand Duchess Elizabeth, and was close to insanity, he was sent to Hamburg, where he recovered, and in Russia, he did not return.
