Solomentsev Jerome (Ivan Pavlovich) (28/06/1803 – 14/11/1885) – Hieroschemamonk-confessor Panteleymonova Russian monastery on Mount Athos, the son of a wealthy merchant, was born June 28, 1803 in Stary Oskol, died Nov. 14, 1885
Propensity for spiritual feats was almost obscheyu in his family (up to 15 of his relatives were in monasticism); not deceived wealth, he soon began to ask the parents to the monastery, kept a strict fast, nights spent in prayer, and finally, in 1831 parents sent him to the monastery.
Having visited several monasteries in 1836, he arrived at Athos and soon his hair cut there in the monk with the name Ioanniky. November 21, 1840, he was ordained a deacon, November 23 – in the priesthood and was then appointed general confessor of Russian Panteleymonova monastery. In 1841 Ioanniky took the monastic name of Jerome. In the monastery, he worked hard to upgrade the monastery attracted many benefactors who continued publishing the monastery and published them edifying books, pamphlets and leaflets, spreading in large numbers, with a large excess cover the cost of publishing and the number of monks, before declining to 10, increased 800.
Jerome did a great deal for the reconciliation of two warring parties in the monastery – the Greek and Russian. Diligence on. Jerome arranged New Athos monastery Simoneau Kananitsky in the Caucasus.
