Schmidt, Peter P. (05 (17) .02.1867 – 06 (19) .03.1906), Russian revolutionary, a democrat, one of the leaders of Sevastopol uprising of 1905. Born in Odessa in a noble family of hereditary naval officer. He graduated from the Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg (1886). Served in the Baltic Sea and the Pacific, in 1898 with the rank of lieutenant went to the reserve. Swam in the ocean-going merchant vessels. At the beginning of 1904 mobilized, with January 1905 the commander of the destroyer number 253 on the Black Sea Fleet. Early in the Revolution 1905 – 1907, organized at Sevastopol 'Union officers – friends of the people, and then participated in the creation of the Odessa Society of mutual merchant mariners – a first in the maritime transport trade union organizations. October 20 (2 November) 1905 was arrested for speaking out at rallies the sailors, soldiers and workers, participate in political demonstrations, "… for the" bold "with a defense with a gun in the hands of freedoms promised in the manifesto of October 17 (VI Lenin, J., Vol. coll. Op., 5 ed., v. 12, pp. 111). The workers elected a life member of the Schmidt Sevastopol Board of Workers' Deputies, 3 (16) November have made for his release. 7 (20) November Schmidt has resigned and the rank of captain rank 2. Since the beginning of the Sevastopol uprising military organization of the Social-Democrats, considering that Schmidt sincere revolutionary, but without strong political views, who knows military affairs, reputation and popularity among sailors invited him to become a military leader of the uprising. 14 (27) November Schmidt arrived at the cruiser Ochakov.
