Biography Beelzebub

Beelzebub (or Beelzebub) – the biblical name of the deity sirofinikiyskogo Vaalzevuv, considered the patron and protector of the flies, swarms of which are terrible penalty for people and animals in hot climates of the East. Clearly, this is one of the particular manifestation of the general sirofinikiyskogo Baal. In the biblical books of this word occurs in two dissimilar ways. In the Old Testament it is used in the meaning of the local deities of the Philistines of Ekron, enjoyed fame as an oracle, and from neighboring peoples, among others, the Jews, during their deviations from the true religion. So Ahaziah the king of Israel, having been ill, and sent messengers to Ekron to the request to ask Beelzebub – "whether he will recover from illness?" (4 Samuel. I, 2). In the New Testament we find the same word in the sense of Satan or evil spirits or the head of demons. How Jewish demonology reached equating Satan with Beelzebub – unknown. According to some, this was a desire to humiliate Satan bringing down the degree of his pathetic "god of flies. This tendency is even clearer in another philological interpretation of the word under consideration, – the interpretation, which Beelzebub means "god of manure, or any dirt and mud. He was considered the chief culprit of painful illness were possessed with devils, usually retreating from society, people in unclean places (cemeteries, etc.).. According to such views, or the Pharisees, seeing that Christ cast out demons, boldly asserted that he did it "by Beelzebub the prince of devils" (Mate. XII, 24 – 27, Mark. III, 22; Onions. XI, 16 – 20 ).
