Anubis – Egyptian god, in hieroglyphic monuments called ANEP or Anup. In Egyptian mythology, A., son of Osiris, born of Neftis that Osiris, by mistake, took for his wife Isis.
The Greeks equated him to Hermes, but sometimes, integrating it Eg. and Greek. name, called Germanubisom.
At the monument he is depicted with a jackal's head, with pointed ears and nose; this head Greeks replaced the dog's head. At the other images he struts double crown upper and lower Egypt. In Plutarch, the victim was brought to him a white or yellow rooster.
Like Hermes Psihopompos Greeks, he was on the beliefs Egyptians, was a conductor dead in the underworld called Amentes and, together with Horus, weighed their deeds before Osiris.
When the Egyptian cult penetrated the Roman Empire, AG merged with Hermes and his image with a dog's head, accompanied by signs of the latter.
